Who doesn’t want Gold?

Study

India is the land of many great inventors and mathematicians like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Ramanujan, Bhaskara & many others. Without ‘0’, there will be no byte. No computer science. India is producing the world’s largest number of computer science graduates each year. CEOs of many well-known Silicon Valley companies like Alphabets, Adobe, Microsoft, IBM are Indians. India is the largest software development and outsourcing country. You might be surprised to know that the first Asian who won Turing Award, the Nobel Prize of Computer Science is also an Indian. His name is Raj Reddy.

But even after all these achievements; we still have a long way to go. Many more milestone need to be marked. One of them is winning gold in ACM-ICPC.  ICPC means International Collegiate Programming Contest. It is the largest student programming contest in the world! Globally, this competition is considered the most prestigious and includes elite young programmers. In the arena of computer science, winning Turing Award is higher feat than winning ACM-ICPC gold. But it is still ‘Gold’!!! When India is trying to become a global education hub, winning any global competition will bolster our position.

Some companies like CodeChef are supporting and encouraging the Indian ACM-ICPC participants and also started ‘Go For Gold’ initiative many years ago. But it’s not all sufficient. Just like other Olympics games, other countries’ students have been started preparing straight from the schooling.  While in India, most of the students take the coding seriously only after getting college admission. Of course, not every student has to learn coding from very early age or even afterwards but we need to encourage those who like the code and want to participate in this kind of competitions. Without this thing, we can’t win the gold at ACM-ICPC. Our new education policy is opening the gates of many opportunities like coding from standard 6. But only by implementing those policies efficiently, our next generation can win this race. Many other great startups and established institutes are making contribution in this goal by their own way. I am contributing in this great vision in my own capacity by publishing the book ‘The Puzzles, The Maths and The Codes’.  It has no secret formula that developed coding skills over nightly but helps anyone to improve and sharpe their computational thinking and skills. This book is coordination between puzzles, mathematics and codes. It is hoped that the content matter will help the readers to cultivate the interest in computing.
