- The ACM ICPC is considered as the “Olympics of Programming Competitions”. It is quite simply, the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world.
- CodeChef, founded by Bhavin Turakhia, has launched the “Go for Gold” initiative in 2010 to enable Indian teams to excel at the world finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC).
- The ICPC Regionals are organized by the local universities of different regions spread across the globe. The winners of these regional rounds of the contest get to represent the country in the ICPC World Finals. The Asia Regionals in India are held at 4 sites viz. Amritapuri, Kolkata, Gwalior, and Kharagpur.
- IIT Kanpur is the first Indian University that participated in ACM ICPC final (1999-2000).
- The best ever rank for an Indian team at the ACM ICPC World Finals is 18, secured by Teams from IIT Delhi and Hyderabad back in 2012.
